Arizona QB Jacoby Brissett joining Cardinals minicamp to avoid penalties amid contract negotiations

Veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett intends to report to the Arizona Cardinals for mandatory three-day minicamp this week, despite an unresolved contract dispute that kept him away from voluntary offseason activities.

By reporting to minicamp, Brissett will avoid more than $107,000 in fines under the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement, though it remains uncertain how much on-field work he will do while negotiations continue.

Multiple reports indicate the two sides remain far apart and no agreement is expected before minicamp. Brissett could participate in a “hold-in” by reporting to the facility while limiting practice work, a tactic increasingly used by players pursuing new contracts.

Brissett is entering the final season of the two-year, $12.5 million contract he signed in 2025. Scheduled to earn roughly $4.9 million in 2026 with only $1.5 million guaranteed, the 33-year-old has been seeking a revised deal after being elevated from backup to projected starter following the departure of Kyler Murray. The Cardinals signed Gardner Minshew this offseason, and his contract includes more guaranteed money than Brissett’s despite being viewed as the No. 2 quarterback.

Meanwhile, Brissett delivered the best statistical season of his career in 2025 after taking over the starting job, throwing for 3,366 yards with 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 14 games. Arizona enters 2026 with Brissett atop a quarterback group that also includes Minshew, rookie Carson Beck and Kedon Slovis, while first-year head coach Mike LaFleur installs a new offensive system ahead of training camp.
