The Carolina Hurricanes moved within one win of the Stanley Cup Final after defeating the Montreal Canadiens in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Final at the Bell Centre, taking a commanding 3-1 lead in the series.

Carolina effectively iced the game during a relentless first-period surge, lighting the lamp three times in a span of just 2 minutes and 47 seconds. The scoring clinic began on the power play when Sebastian Aho hammered a one-timer past Montreal goaltender Jakub Dobes from the right circle. Moments later, Jordan Staal doubled the lead by deflecting a centering pass from K’Andre Miller. Logan Stankoven quickly capped off the stunning sequence by executing a perfect two-on-one rush alongside Jason Blake.

With the early advantage secured, Carolina stopped the Montreal offense for the remainder of the evening. The Hurricanes completely dictated the pace in the final frame, outshooting the Canadiens by a staggering 19-3 margin in the third period and finishing with a dominant 43-18 shot advantage overall. Andrei Svechnikov added an empty-net goal late in the third period to seal the blowout.

Frederik Andersen turned aside all 18 shots he faced, registering his third shutout of the current postseason. The stellar performance continues a spectacular playoff run for Andersen and the Hurricanes, who now boast an 11-1 record across the first three rounds.

The Canadiens will now try to stave off elimination and force a return trip to Montreal, while the Hurricanes look to punch their ticket to the championship round. The series winner will advance to face the Vegas Golden Knights, who have already secured their spot in the Stanley Cup Final after completing a sweep in the Western Conference Final.

Game 5 is scheduled for Friday night in North Carolina.
