Apple TV+ has renewed its breakout hit series “Widow’s Bay” for a second season, just ahead of the show’s first-season finale — extending the run of one of the streamer’s most talked-about new original series.
A post on X reads: “Mayor Tom Loftis declares Widow’s Bay remains totally safe and open to visitors. #WidowsBay — Renewed for Season 2”
The series, created, executive produced and showrun by Katie Dippold, stars Emmy-winner Matthew Rhys as Mayor Tom Loftis, whose efforts to revive a struggling New England island community are complicated by supernatural events that residents have long warned about. Directed in part by Hiro Murai, the show blends mystery, horror and comedy and has earned widespread praise since debuting in April.
Rhys leads an ensemble cast that includes Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, Kevin Carroll, Dale Dickey and Kingston Rumi Southwick. Additional episodes in the first season were directed by Ti West, Sam Donovan and Andrew DeYoung. The 10-episode inaugural season concludes June 17, with the renewal ensuring that the island’s mysteries will continue beyond the finale.
Announcing the renewal, Apple TV programming chief Matt Cherniss said audiences have embraced the series’ mysteries and humor, while Dippold teased, “Season 2 is about how everything is great on the island and there’s nothing to worry about.” Apple also revealed a new multi-year overall agreement with Dippold, further strengthening its relationship with the writer-producer.
